Why Am I Running?

I made the decision to run for Salt Lake County Surveyor so that I can serve the people and professionals that live and work in Salt Lake County. The Salt Lake County Surveyor’s Office provides valuable information and resources that help all of the residents that call Salt Lake County home or provide services to those residents. I have worked for many years serving those same residents and have relied upon the Salt Lake County Surveyor’s Office for the valuable information needed to perform those duties. I now wish to take the lead in providing those same services.

WHY CHANGE NOW?

I currently serve as the Field Operations Manager for the Salt Lake County Surveyor's Office, managing 3 full-time field crews with 3 - 4 people each. I have held this position for 6 years and have learned how this office operates. I have been an integral part of numerous County projects from road work, easements, sidewalks, County facility projects, to upgrading and maintaining trails and canals.

Why would I want to put all of that on the line? To serve YOU!

When I started working at Salt Lake County, I expressed my desire to one day run for County Surveyor. However, I also said that I would not run against the current Surveyor, Reid Demman. Earlier in 2024, Reid decided that he would not run again, so here I am - ready to be YOUR next Salt Lake County Surveyor.

MY EXPERIENCE

I have been surveying for 34 years - 26 years in the private sector and 8 years in the public sector. I have worked for civil engineering companies and land surveying companies - including running my own business. I understand the needs of surveyors and I am a fierce protector of private property rights.

I have also worked in the public sector - first, as the City Surveyor for Orem City and currently as the Field Operations Manager for Salt Lake County. In these positions, I have learned what it takes to run and operate an office that serves the public. I know that every dime that is spent in this office, was taken from someone else in taxes. I will be diligent in continuing to be fiscally conservative.
